Online Therapy

2326276573Consider an alternative to in-person therapy.

Spending considerable time online is something you already do, so why not use it for therapy?

Imagine a space where healing meets convenience – a virtual room where you can explore your mental health without the complications of traffic, waiting rooms, or time crunches.

Telehealth for therapy brings your therapist directly to your favorite chair, offering the same expertise and support as in-person sessions with added flexibility.

Whether managing stress, navigating life’s transitions, or unpacking deeper issues, telehealth allows you to prioritize your well-being from the comfort of your home (or office). Plus, it can make therapy more accessible, whether you live in the city or a rural town. Logging in is a small step, but it could be a giant leap for your peace of mind.

Online therapy provides conveniences and benefits.

Skip the drive! Bringing therapy into your home allows you to choose a comfortable spot – your sofa, the backyard, even your bed if you’re not feeling well. You decide! And don’t worry about how you look or what you should wear. This is about being comfortable where you are.

Are you feeling sick? Online therapy means you can still get support and work through issues, even with sniffles or headaches. Better yet – why subject yourself to anyone else’s germs by visiting an office?

It’s on your time! Therapy from home means scheduling a session at a time that suits you. That means during the kids’ naptime, while your spouse is at work, or during a break from your work or home schedule.

One of the most significant benefits is privacy! You won’t have to worry about being seen walking into a therapy office. That also gives you time after the session to sit and reflect, compose yourself if needed, and not worry about packing up to leave.

According to UCLA Health (1), a review of more than 60 studies found that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for depression and anxiety.

Another review (2) found that online Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy was as effective as in-person treatment for panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.

There are limitations to online therapy.

There are times when online therapy is ill-advised.

If you are in crisis and seeking care, in-person therapy is recommended. Call 911, the national suicide hotline 988, or visit your local hospital, emergency room, or mobile crisis care unit to get stabilized quickly.

Some mental health concerns are better treated in person, like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and PTSD, with severe trauma triggers.

Save the email or text reminder about your scheduled session so you can join on time and from your chosen device. If using a smartphone or tablet, download the app and create an account before your session begins.

Choose a quiet spot with no distractions or interruptions. Wear headphones or ear pods if noise is a problem. You can sit in your car for privacy during the workday, but please avoid driving during the session.

Online connections and technology can occasionally be glitchy, but I am familiar with navigating those challenges. If problems prevent us from connecting, don’t worry – I will help you.

The technology I use for sessions is secure and private, HIPAA-compliant, and integrated into my electronic health record system.
